Presenter and star of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, Katie Derham, has been unveiled as the host of the inaugural Dot London Small Business Awards. The ceremony is set to take place on 21 January 2016 at the newly refurbished IET London on Savoy Place, overlooking the Thames, where the winners will be crowned in front of their peers and leading figures in business and enterprise.
Nominees for the Awards, which aim to celebrate the success of London’s most outstanding small businesses across a variety of industries, have been narrowed down from hundreds of entries in 12 categories by a prestigious panel of judges. Headed up by entrepreneur and BBC ‘Dragon’ Sarah Willingham, judges include John Vincent, Co-Founder of LEON Restaurants; Oliver Tress, Co-Founder of lifestyle retail stores, Oliver Bonas; and Chloe Macintosh, Co-Founder of design led furniture retail website, Made.com. It is now down to the general public to visit www.awards.london and decide which London-based small businesses will be crowned Dot London Small Business Awards 2015 winners.
Katie Derham, commented: “With small businesses making up 98 percent of all the companies registered in London this year*, entrepreneurial spirit in the capital is plentiful. Their ingenuity and dedication is inspirational, and it’s particularly rewarding to know that it will be the public, their customers, who will be the ones voting to decide who wins.”
Each winner will receive £1000, one-to-one mentoring on how to improve their online business presence from sponsors, including 123-Reg, GoDaddy, Heart Internet and UK2, and a free Dot London domain name for a year**. There is an additional prize for the winner of the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award of a year-long membership to the Federation of Small Businesses.
A spokesperson from IET London: Savoy Place – who have recently launched their new Dot London website, www.savoyplace.london – said: “It’s an honour for us to be hosting the inaugural Dot London Small Business Awards, helping to recognise the capital’s thriving small business community. The Awards will be the first big event to take place in our Riverside Room since the reopening of our venue last week after a 2-year £30 million refurbishment, and is the perfect location for this fantastic event given IET London: Savoy Place is the home of innovation.”
Voting across the 12 categories, including Best Place to Drink, Social Enterprise of the Year and New Business of the Year, closes at 5pm on 8 January 2016. To vote visit www.awards.london.
